However, non-musical sounds are still often [[BR]] considered as byproducts of artifacts rather than being exploited for their rich intrinsic value. Sound carries information that is perceived and used, often [[BR]] unconsciously, and therefore shapes the overall interaction experience. The goal of this Workshop on '''S'''onic '''I'''nteraction '''D'''esign ('''SID''') is to group scattered research-creation efforts in sound technology, design, art, music and [[BR]] psychology into a coherent body of knowledge capable of assisting the design of the sonic appearance of future environments, events and artifacts. [[BR]] Participants will explore various opportunities and methods for designing the sonic behavior of everyday objects. Research papers are invited on any relevant topic, including: * Product sound design * Contextual, psychological, cultural and social aspects of SID * Sound-based interfaces and gesture * '''SID''' in art, design and architecture * Sonification and enaction * Sonic and haptic feedback design Research papers (limited to 6 pages in the [http://www.chi2008.org/formatting.html HCI Archive Format]), will be peer-reviewed and selected based on critical contribution to the Workshop theme. [[BR]] In the one-day Workshop, participants will have the opportunity to present, demonstrate, and discuss their research. Workshop topics will be discussed in [[BR]] groups. A maximum of 12 papers will be selected for presentation. Submissions do not have to be anonymous. A Workshop report will be prepared for the ''SIGCHI'' bulletin.
